Pre-Meal for Mar 11, 2026For Your Consideration
Happy Wednesday!
A few weeks ago, envelopes began arriving at my house filled with “For Your Consideration” screener DVDs. (I assume this is related to my work on The Bear? Honestly, I’m not sure.)
I know this is pure PR, but I love movies, so it was exciting.
After a few days, the DVDs had formed a little stack on my office bookshelf. Christina looked at them and asked the question I’d been asking myself:
“What exactly are we supposed to do with these?”
Neither of us could remember when our last DVD player went to the great electronic junkyard in the sky. 2007? Earlier? Definitely more than a decade ago. Which means that if I want to give these movies my serious consideration, I’ll first have to figure out how to watch them.
Then a package arrived from Amazon Prime. Inside was a tactile, three-dimensional piece of paper art with details from some of the movies, along with a QR code. No obsolete technology, and no extra steps; one scan with my phone, and I could watch every one of their films immediately. They might have been asking for my consideration, but they considered me, too.
People have strong opinions about streaming eligibility, and about Amazon itself; those conversations matter. But, as I look at that steadily growing pile of DVDs on my bookshelf and compare it to the ease of that QR code, I know the next time I make an ask of someone, I’m also going to be asking myself: have I made it easy for them to say yes?
Have a good service,
Will
